About The Position

The Illinois School for the Deaf is seeking to hire a dynamic and detail-oriented Information Services Specialist 1 to assist in technical on-site support to users and equipment throughout the school. This position performs limited on-site maintenance, troubleshooting and set-up of computer hardware and associated equipment, such as cleaning printers, reinstalling drivers, memory installation and other hardware related tasks. Completes supervised assignments in applications programming, typically restricted to the maintenance, modification or redesign of one or more existing projects, including relational databases; conducts small on-site groups and one-on-one beginner level training to students on basic Windows and PC skills, features and uses of existing or new database projects and Personal Planning System software and attends training seminars and conferences, to develop an increased range of professional knowledge and technical computer skills.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields OR satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to move, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with assistive technology utilized by persons who are hearing impaired including JAWS, WindowEyes, ZoomText, DuxBury Braille translation, and similar programs.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience training people in beginning level computer use.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience completing assignments in application programming such as maintenance, modification, and redesign of one or more existing projects, including relational databases.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with Information Technology concepts and principles, the theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of Information Technology documentation.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with hardware and software, languages, and procedures to provide assigned technical and analytical support services including programs utilized in educational settings including filtering software, educational, and textbook software.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience utilizing effective communication skills and strong abilities in writing, speaking, listening as well as self-management and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
