About The Position

As an Information Security Intern, you will work directly with our Information Security Officer, Security Operations Center (SOC), and broader InfoSec team to gain real‑world experience, including: Exposure to identity and access management (IAM), risk assessments, and security governance. Hands‑on experience reviewing security events, phishing incidents, malware alerts, and vulnerability findings. Experience with SIEM, EDR, threat intelligence platforms, and incident response procedures. Participation in real incident response workflows, ticket remediation, and reporting. Exposure to cybersecurity policy, audit requests, governance, and compliance functions. Collaboration with IT, cybersecurity teams, and business units to understand how security protects the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be in pursuit of an undergraduate college degree, as follows: Currently enrolled in college; or Enrolled in college for Fall 2026; or College graduate between May 2025 – June 2026
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to work onsite. Onsite locations depend on the department. Common onsite locations include Downers Grove, Oakbrook, Aurora and Chicago-Wacker.
  • Must be available to work 20-40 hours per week and be available to start late May/early June through the end of July/early August.
  • Internship durations vary between 8 – 12 weeks.
  • Proficient in using Window 2010 Office software with intermediate skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; prioritizing work and multi-tasking.
  • Desire to work in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with initial triage of security events (phishing, malware, suspicious activity).
  • Investigate alerts using SOC tools (SIEM, EDR, threat intelligence solutions).
  • Identify patterns/outliers aligned with attacker TTPs and insider threat behaviors.
  • Monitor vulnerability disclosures and assess impacts to the institution.
  • Support User Access Reviews (UAR), Password Complexity checks, Segregation of Duties evaluation.
  • Assist in documenting access review processes and tracking remediation tickets.
  • Participate in IAM governance meetings and minute‑taking.
  • Assist with internal IS compliance reviews and evidence gathering during audits.
  • Help update policies, standards, playbooks, and awareness materials.
  • Support incident documentation, reporting, and risk assessments.
