About The Position

We are committed to excellence, compassion, and innovation in all aspects of senior living, and we’re currently seeking a highly motivated Infection Preventionist (RN) to join our team. The Infection Preventionist (RN) is responsible for the development, implementation, education, and oversight of our community-wide Infection Prevention and Control Program. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as LifeSpire policies. The position requires frequent interaction with residents, families, staff, and external health and regulatory partners.

Requirements

  • Current and valid RN license in the State of Virginia
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in infection prevention or related nursing leadership
  • At least 5 years' experience in direct patient/resident care (long-term care preferred)
  • Certification in Infection Control preferred; IPCO training (AHCA) required within 6 months if not certified
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Lead infection control efforts across all departments to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain infection prevention policies in collaboration with clinical leadership.
  • Monitor and report infection trends through surveillance, data analysis, and regulatory reporting.
  • Coordinate with health departments, hospitals, and internal teams on outbreak responses and prevention strategies.
  • Serve as the lead educator on infection prevention for staff and new hires.
  • Oversee key health programs, including antibiotic stewardship, immunization efforts, and tuberculosis prevention.
  • Participate in and support community QAPI initiatives.
  • Review incoming resident medical history to assess infection risk and necessary precautions.
  • Provide clear guidance and communication during infection control incidents or outbreaks.
  • Maintain membership with APIC and stay current with infection control best practices.
