About The Position

The Participant Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing infection control and participant safety initiatives at Rocky Mountain Health Care Services. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and best practices by monitoring, evaluating, and improving processes related to infection prevention, fall reduction, and other safety incidents. Key responsibilities include conducting surveillance, analyzing data to identify trends, and providing education to staff and participants on infection control and safety practices. The Participant Safety Coordinator serves as a subject matter expert and resource for policies, outbreak management, and safety events, fostering a safe and sanitary environment for all participants.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado, bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year in quality improvement, risk management, or infection control (preferred)
  • Knowledge of infection prevention standards (CDC, OSHA, Colorado regulations) or ability to learn quickly.
  • Required to obtain CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Certificate within the first 120 days of employment.
  • Experience in performance improvement projects and root cause analysis.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact clearly and effectively with both internal and external customers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, vendors, medical staff, and the public
  • Strong understanding of clinical operations; experience in home health, residential care, or PACE programs is a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations around complex topics across all levels of the organization

Nice To Haves

  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical operations; experience in home health, residential care, or PACE programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting a culture of quality and compliance within Rocky Mountain Health Care Services
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective Infection Control Program.
  • Conduct surveillance and reporting for infection control and participant safety measures.
  • Educate and train staff and participants on infection prevention and safety practices.
  • Perform audits and compliance monitoring for infection control and safety standards.
  • Lead organizational response during infectious disease events, outbreaks, or exposures.
  • Maintain accurate records of infection and safety surveillance, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to review quality data trends, identify root causes of adverse trends, and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize quality improvement tools (e.g., PDSA cycles) to measure and enhance outcomes.
  • Assist with federal and state survey readiness, including corrective action plans related to health and safety.
  • Ensure timely completion of licensing and certification renewals.
  • Monitor risk areas and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary teams to ensure infection control and safety standards are met.
  • Play an essential role in quality-focused committees, such as safety, falls, and infection prevention committees.
