About The Position

SCS is seeking an Industrial Wastewater Engineering Intern - Summer 2026 for our Virginia Beach, VA, or Raleigh, NC office. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on projects involving industrial water and wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and groundwater remediation. This is a full-time position (typically 40 hours per week) during the summer.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering with graduation by June 2028 required.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Must be willing to live in the Virginia Beach, VA, or Raleigh, NC area for Summer 2026 (housing allowance not provided).
  • Solid technical and computer skills; AutoCAD/Civil3D, Bluebeam, Microsoft Visio, or Pipe-FLO experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.
  • Ability to travel overnight for fieldwork may be required.
  • Please note that we do not hire international students for our internships.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD/Civil3D, Bluebeam, Microsoft Visio, or Pipe-FLO experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients across industrial, mining, and landfill sectors to support the engineering and development of water and wastewater treatment solutions.
  • Strengthen your technical skills by assisting with project research, field investigations, and preliminary design calculations and analyses.
  • Provide support to industrial and municipal water treatment facilities, including process evaluations and operational troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to the design, optimization, and ongoing support of new and existing water and wastewater treatment systems.
