About The Position

The Level Three Industrial Electrician is a senior-level electrical professional responsible for advanced troubleshooting, system design support, automation optimization, and leadership within the sawmill maintenance department. This role ensures maximum uptime, electrical system reliability, and continuous improvement of all electrical and automated systems throughout the facility. The Level Three Electrician operates independently, leads complex electrical projects, and serves as a technical mentor to Level One and Level Two electricians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent industrial experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of industrial electrical experience (sawmill or heavy manufacturing preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of: Three-phase power distribution systems PLC programming and troubleshooting Industrial automation systems Control networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.) Motor controls and power distribution
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects.
  • Ability to train and supervise junior electricians.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and emergency call-ins as needed.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Extended standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty, and high-noise sawmill environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of 120V–480V three-phase industrial systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation failures affecting production.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
  • Configure and troubleshoot: Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Soft starters Servo systems Motor control centers (MCCs)
  • Lead electrical system upgrades, expansions, and capital improvement projects.
  • Design and modify control circuits to improve equipment efficiency and safety.
  • Read, interpret, and create electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Support kiln electrical systems, optimization systems, and automated lumber handling equipment.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors to minimize downtime.
  • Train and mentor Level One and Level Two electricians.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, and company safety policies.
  • Lead and enforce Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system modifications and repairs.
  • Assist with budgeting and planning for electrical maintenance and improvements.
