About The Position

Individuals will serve with the National Park Service at the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. They will serve as a Park Guide working the front desk at either the Montgomery, Lowndes or Selma Interpretive Centers. They will also have individual projects related to the history or themes of the site.

Requirements

  • Enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Like the study of history, historical, natural or cultural resources
  • Flexible
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
  • Personal Vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to learn Customer service skills
  • Ability to build good public speaking skills
  • Ability to learn the history of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail and share this knowledge with visitors

Responsibilities

  • Staff the front desk of the Interpretive Center, answering visitor questions and phone calls
  • Operate the cash register at the bookstore, assisting visitors with sales
  • Researching backgrounds on foot soldiers
  • Communicate well verbally and in writing
