About The Position

Indian Education Tutor Job Description Job Title: Instructional Tutor, Sapulpa Public Schools Indian Education Program Qualifications: 1. Preferred: Meet the Highly Qualified NCLB Act for Paraprofessionals , Minimum Education: Associate Degree 2. Knowledge of lndian Culture and the educational needs of lndian children 3. Ability to relate well with students, parents , community , and school personnel 4. Indian Preference must be exercised. Public Law 93-638, the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistant Act of 1975, now directs "Indian Preference " to be used in hiring for all Title VI and JOM vacancies Reports to: Indian Education Program Director Terms of Employment: Non-certified Support Position, 9 month contract- 37.5 hours per week Evaluated by: IE Director and Building Principal to which the IE tutor is assigned Position Goals: to be assigned, equipped, and trained by the Indian Education Program for the purpose of meeting the special educational and cultural academic needs of the Indian students in grades kindergarten through seventh. Essential Job Functions: Work with individuals or small groups (preferably no more than three) of students in reading math, and language arts. Provide cultural enrichment classes as requested by teachers. Responsible for individual students plan or work when requested by teacher. Will assist in maintaining accurate accounts of Indian students enrolled in their assigned school. Assimilate data for monthly reports, record keeping; maintain schedules of classes, activities and cultural presentations. Attend IEP (Individual Education Plan) placement meetings when requested by principal, if student is tutored through the Indian Education Program and tutoring is written in as part of the IEP. Attend all staff meetings, in-service workshops, and Title VI and JOM Conference meetings. When requested, attend monthly Parent Committee meetings. Actively participate in all functions and activities relating to the Indian Education Program for Sapulpa Public Schools Perform other duties as assigned and approved by the Indian Education Director.
