About The Position

The Information Technology Specialist provides technical support, leadership, and coordination for the programs and activities of the Technology Department. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of district technology systems, infrastructure, and services. The role oversees the district-wide network infrastructure, website maintenance, student information systems, and staff development in instructional and administrative technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and security of the district-wide network infrastructure, including servers, switches, Wi-Fi, bandwidth contracts, and related systems.
  • Prioritizes and executes tasks aligned with core technical strengths, while effectively delegating appropriate responsibilities to department technology staff to ensure efficient workflow and team productivity.
  • Provide technical support, leadership, and coordination for the district’s technology initiatives.
  • Ensure ethical and appropriate use of district technology resources (internet access, copyright compliance, security protocols, etc.).
  • Collaborate with district leadership to align technology initiatives with educational and operational goals.
  • Remain current with emerging technologies, particularly in the field of education, and share relevant updates with school personnel.
  • Manage and update the district website to ensure functionality, accessibility, and timely communication.
  • Provide technical direction and support to all staff and departments, including professional development and training opportunities.
  • Manage classroom technology systems, including hardware, software, and ongoing Maintenance.
  • Supervise and evaluate technology staff.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of district lunch program software.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of inside wiring (analog/digital), intercom, and VoIP phone systems.
  • Ensure user access integration, management, and maintenance across all district systems.
  • Oversee print management and maintenance, including equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and complete necessary information for receipt of E-Rate funds for the district.
  • Develop and manage the annual Technology Department budget.
  • Oversee hardware and software installations.
  • Direct Chromebook program management, including stocking, applications, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and maintain staff devices (laptops, desktops, tablets, etc.), including upgrades, imaging, and recovery.
  • Supervise and maintain network resources, ensuring upgrades, security, and availability.
  • Provide IT support for state-mandating testing platforms and processes.
  • Manage building audio/video systems and provide video recovery and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintain districtwide calendar.
  • Conduct district-directed staff email investigations and fulfill technology-related FOIA requests.
  • Support the integration of lighting, heating, and cooling systems into the network for centralized management.
  • Ensure network, device, and account security, implementing policies and providing staff training on cybersecurity practices.
  • Acts as a liaison to the Rhode Island Department of Education and/or other agencies relative to technology.
  • Coordinate and manage software licensing and installations for instructional and administrative systems.
  • Coordinate service requests and manage vendor-provided technical services as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as specified by the superintendent or their designee.
