About The Position

Prime Air is seeking an experienced engineer to monitor hardware quality and compliance issues in our drone delivery operations. Are you interested in solving problems for a quickly scaling business using state-of-the-art technology? Key job responsibilities In this role you will: - Monitor quality issues in the service fleet of delivery drones and our supporting systems - Triage and resolve quality issues by performing a Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis - Drive the resolution of in-service issues by coordinating the actions of other Prime Air engineering and operations teams - Identify compliance issues (compliance to regulation or internal procedures) and solve the issues or pass them to compliance stakeholders - Work with compliance stakeholders to maintain a comprehensive risk-based audit program A day in the life 0800-0830: Brief status of drone fleet and discuss prominent issues. 0830-1000: Investigate a quality issue found by field maintenance technicians. Work cross-functionally with Supplier and Assembly Quality Teams to see where the issue originated. Be sure to consider all possible failure points across manufacturing and operations. 1000-1200: Investigate variances in crew logs. Meet with drone operators, regulatory SMEs, and the Learning team to make standards clearer for crews. 1200-1230: Lunch with a view of Mt. Rainier. 1230-1700: Focus time designing a process for part scrapping that scales to over 100 sites. About the team The Quality Engineering team at Prime Air ensures the quality of parts coming from suppliers, assembly processes, and in-service drones. The In-Service Quality (ISQ) team covers the last phase of the product quality lifecycle. We monitor for quality issues and process breaks where drones are actually used to deliver to for our customers. Our scope is broad because problems at this phase can come from a part design, software issues, user documentation, or external factors. Anywhere we see a risk, we respond, coordinating with other teams and resources across the company to improve safety, efficiency, or customer experience.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in audits related to business processes, risk mitigation, program compliance, or internal audits
  • 4+ years of technical support, or 4+ years of relevant technical position experience
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aviation, aerospace, or drone operations
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Advanced Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python
  • Experience supporting a 14 CFR part 121 or part 135 operator, or a foreign equivalent
