About The Position

As a Team Lead – Field Engineer in the Strategic Projects group, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers in the field supporting our clients through commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting. The Team Lead’s (TL) primary responsibility will be the accurate, timely, and quality of completion of field engineering scopes as assigned to the team. The TL will assist in the development and training of internal field engineers both within the team and outside the team while ensuring standards and best practices are followed in the field. It will be the responsibility of the TL to ensure engineers who go into the field are properly trained and educated to mitigate risk and ensure compliance across codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, Electric Power option preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years of Engineering or relevant field experience
  • Licensure: FE or PE preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and power system software such as EasyPower, ETAP or SKM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and other computer software
  • Professional, articulate, and able to exercise good independent judgement and discretion
  • Highly organized, motivated self-starter
  • Proven record of delivering a high standard of quality work with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with apparatus testing and familiarity with NETA standards
  • Experience with Omicron test equipment required
  • Strong understanding of relaying schemes and principles
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and creating systems and plans where there are none
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment with a quickly growing team
  • Good interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills; ability to interact successfully with Clients, Contractors, Vendors, and at all levels of the organization; demonstrates high emotional intelligence
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting SCADA systems

Responsibilities

  • Oversees scheduling, staffing, development, and safety for NEI’s field engineering services
  • Manages NEI’s electrical field equipment, ensuring that equipment is properly maintained and calibrated
  • Identifies and procures field equipment as needed, and establishes training programs and best practices for equipment use by field engineers
  • Develops and maintains a network of capable engineers within NEI that have field knowledge and experience that can complete work at a high level while training others
  • Manage internal employees that have field experience while being an advocate for employees that have expressed interest in gaining hands-on field experience
  • Provides training and coaching to engineers going into the field including, but not limited to pre-job safety meetings, basic tools training, and providing all PPE equipment and necessary tools to perform work in the field
  • Works in tandem with Chief Administrative Officer to set up field training sessions relay testing and labs, basics of wiring installation, and tracking basic electrical training
  • Performs equipment, control system, communications, and relay testing, along with troubleshooting, start-up, and commissioning services
  • Provides onsite construction support and supervision; attends construction meetings, assist with construction RFIs, questions, and design updates; assists with project scheduling, coordination between Engineers, Owners, Vendors, Contractors, and other parties; verifies compliance with designs
  • Prepares field testing, troubleshooting, investigation, and construction progress reports
  • Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, and studies
  • Programs, wires, and installs protective relaying and control systems
  • Programs, installs, and tests communications, SCADA, and PLC systems
  • Perform detailed design of all aspects of Electric Power Systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Reviews the work of Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and Field Service Personnel for general quality and accuracy, as required
  • Maintains a thorough understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards
  • Expected to work additional time beyond 40 hours/week as required to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
  • Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
