Provides critical support in the control, coordination, and replenishment of surgical implants. Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in inventory control and purchasing or 2 years of experience in surgical services or as a surgical vendor representative
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in hospital operating room or surgery center setting
  • Experience with surgical implants

Responsibilities

  • Research products and provides substitution suggestions as needed.
  • Maintains accurate files and data on all materials purchased.
  • Orders, receives, and coordinates all implants.
  • Quality check’s location uploads to Lawson and makes suggestions to surgical inventory supervisor using future forecast software.
  • Works with surgeons, assistant nurse managers, and technologists to assess inventory needs and revises par levels as necessary to maintain adequate levels of supplies while minimizing outages and overstocks.
  • Assists with product recalls and supports Sterile Processing with supply ordering.
  • Assists with daily closeouts, including communicating with supply chain and operating room staff.
  • Ensures all supplies are available for next day’s cases; reviewing OR Schedule two weeks out to identify and ensure availability of needed supplies, minimizing overnight and emergent orders and deliveries and allowing for sufficient timeframes for sterilization of received implants prior to procedures.
  • Works with charge specialists to maintain charge description master listing of implants and prices.
  • Coordinates staff in-services with Sterile Processing and operating room as needed on implants and implant trays including purchasing processes as needed.
  • Completes monthly check of expiration dates for all implants.
  • Checks shelf labeling and evaluates historical usage data to raise or lower par levels.
  • Coordinates transfer or purchase of supplies urgently from other campuses, hospitals, and vendors.
  • Reduces variances and prepares assigned service line for daily, monthly, and annual cycle counts.
  • Participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with system and departmental goals.
  • Monitors vendor traffic and compliance with vendor policies.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures for the ordering, storage, loaning/borrowing and distribution of tissue and implants.
  • Coordinates returns of implants and disposable of outdated implants.
  • Tracks and maintains record systems for all implants in accordance with regulatory guidelines to optimize procurement.
