About The Position

At Johnson & Johnson, the IMM Technician provides technical and process support for various injection molding machines, including Arburg, Netstal, Sumitomo, Fanuc, and Engel. This role is crucial for training and developing others in process improvements and injection molding machine (IMM) management, aiming to reduce process variability and address equipment reliability issues. The technician will utilize Process Excellence tools and ensure adherence to regulatory standards such as FDA, OSHA, GMP, MPs, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Key responsibilities include monitoring IMM equipment for new products, creating and updating technical documentation, investigating methods to improve reliability, assisting in the design of experiments, and maintaining a strong focus on safety. The position is part of the Vision team, which is dedicated to innovating and improving vision treatments through cutting-edge insights, science, and technology.

Requirements

  • 2+ years college in technical discipline (or equivalent), emphasizing electro-mechanical, and IMM training equivalent industrial experience.
  • Proven process knowledge.
  • 4-6 years IMM maintenance or engineering experience with high volume Injection Molding environment, preferably continuous operations.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, 6pm to 6am or 6am to 6pm, including weekends, on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and process support for the Arburg, Netstal, Sumitomo, Fanuc, and Engel injection molding machines.
  • Train and develop others in process improvements and injection molding machine (IMM) management.
  • Reduce process variability and address IMM equipment reliability issues.
  • Utilize Process Excellence tools.
  • Maintain current knowledge and adhere to provisions of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Manufacturing Procedures (MPs), International Standards Organization 9001, International Standards Organization 14001, equipment specifications and process specifications.
  • Monitor IMM equipment and process status for new products and new installations.
  • Create, review, and update electro/mechanical drawings, operating manuals and procedures, maintenance and calibration procedures, and training manuals as required by the scope of projects assigned.
  • Investigate alternative methods and procedures to reduce variability and improve equipment reliability.
  • Assist in the design of experiments, under operational and developmental conditions, to increase yields and improve IMM machine reliability, repeatability, and standardization.
  • Be vigilant for shop safety, environmental safety, ergonomics, and hazardous energy control.
  • Provide technical training and certification for IMM Technicians on the operation and troubleshooting of the IMM machinery and process.
  • Adhere to environmental policy and procedures and support department environmental objectives.
  • Demonstrate mastery of troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair in conjunction with Process improvement, IMM Knowledge, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, Electro-mechanical devices, Robotic /Servo systems, Safety Devices, Equipment installation, Debug and Qualification, Control circuitry development, Electro-mechanical troubleshooting/repair, Equipment prototyping, Production start-up, IMM equipment process development and mechanical devices and controllers.
  • Record all equipment downtime, machine repairs, audits, and non-conformance events in maintenance management system.
  • Be a key contributor in the design of experiments, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), protocols, validations, and all other projects supporting the business by coordinating or leading improvement.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding in process improvements by meeting qualification standards in at least 1 of the following areas: Key Process Indicators, Lean Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, Gap Analysis, Prioritization Matrix, etc.
  • Operate and maintain the IMM Machines (65%).
  • Perform Maintenance and Process Training (5%).
  • Provide Emergency response for machine troubleshooting and repair (10%).
  • Provide Emergency response for process troubleshooting and repair (10%).
  • Involve with Process Excellence (5%).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management (5%).
