About The Position

This position provides enterprise-level oversight and technical leadership for DICOM and non-DICOM medical imaging systems across the Veterinary Health System. The role is responsible for selecting, implementing, integrating, and maintaining core imaging platforms, including the Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), and specialty imaging software—to ensure seamless integration with the hospital electronic medical record. This position supports and sustains a complex, multi-site imaging environment by ensuring reliable system performance, data integrity, clinical accessibility, and future-ready expansion of imaging services. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, computer science, radiology education program, OR an associate degree and an additional 5+ years of experience with radiological imaging, imaging research, or relevant professional experience are acceptable substitutes.
  • Five years of experience as an imaging informatics specialist, PACS administrator, and imaging systems support analyst, including experience managing junior support analysts.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies in diagnostic imaging and radiology operations, including knowledge of radiologist and clinical workflows, RIS, and PACS.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience training a large client base, including radiologists, clinicians, diagnostic technologists, administrative support personnel, professional veterinary medical students, interns, and residents in the operation and use of a RIS and PACS, including the creation and management of policies and procedures for operations within a diagnostic imaging department
  • Board Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (American Board of Imaging Informatics, CIIP) or PACS Administrators Registry and Certification Association (PARCA).
  • 5 + years of project management experience will be required to replace a RIS.
  • Extensive knowledge of digital imaging and communications in Medicine (DICOM) Standard.
  • Extensive knowledge of a vendor-neutral archive (VNA) not limited to the migration of 10 + TB of endoscopic imaging and videos from the network shared drives to the VNA with tags for viewing in the EMR
  • Experience with pathology slide scanning and the future growth of Pathology Imaging into the VNA.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain RIS/PACS system functionality, including system configuration, database administration, data validation, patient demographic corrections, exception handling, and study management functions such as splitting and merging imaging studies to ensure accurate and usable medical imaging records.
  • Monitor and maintain system integrations and infrastructure, including HL7 interfaces, archive manager, image servers, web servers, PACS broker functionality, and database backup processes to ensure continuous system availability and data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve imaging system and data workflow issues by coordinating with vendors, internal IT partners, and clinical teams to maintain vendor uptime guarantees and minimize disruption to patient care and hospital operations.
  • Develop and run RIS/PACS data queries and reports to provide actionable operational, clinical, and performance data to department leaders, supervisors, and hospital leadership to support decision-making and compliance requirements.
  • Validate and maintain imaging and patient data accuracy by identifying discrepancies, correcting errors, and ensuring proper data flow between imaging systems and downstream clinical and reporting platforms.
  • Support system upgrades, testing, and optimization efforts to maintain system performance, security, and alignment with hospital operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of imaging informatics operations, hospital clinical workflow, and evolving technology needs.
