About The Position

The Instrument/Electrical (IE) Technician is responsible for repairing, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining electrical and process control instrumentation and equipment up to 480 volts while ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental requirements

Requirements

  • Basic math skills
  • Moderate computer skills
  • Ability to read electrical and instrument loop diagrams
  • Ability to climb ladders, drive a forklift, and use a man lift
  • Ability to test and repair electrical circuits up to 480 volts AC
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and electronic instrumentation loops
  • Experience with DCS, PLC programming and troubleshooting, control software, and HMI systems
  • Ability to wear a full-face respirator
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • ISA Certification Level I or II is highly preferred
  • California State Dept. of Apprentice Standard Certified Electrician is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Repair and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation equipment ranging from small motors up to 480 volts
  • Install new electrical equipment up to 480 volts
  • Install wiring and conduit up to 2" diameter including bending and threading conduit
  • Install process control instrumentation such as transmitters, controllers, analyzers, and control valves
  • Remove and install small piping and tubing
  • Rebuild and calibrate transmitters and control valves and tune controllers
  • Maintain and troubleshoot emission monitoring instruments and control equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on instrumentation
  • Interface with contractors during installation and startup of electrical and process control systems
  • Facilitate and order parts as needed
  • Maintain plant electrical and instrumentation records and standards
  • Support operations in process control
  • Conduct inspections and tests as required by the Mechanical Integrity (MIMM) program
  • Operate forklift, man lift, and hand tools including drills, hacksaws, wrenches, and grinders
  • Complete required on-the-job training for Powered Industrial Trucks, Forklift, and Crane
  • Follow all HS&E requirements including attending safety meetings, using PPE properly, reporting incidents, and participating in investigations
  • Assist with writing job procedures and preparing work permits
  • Participate in PSUSR, PHA, and MOCs
  • Maintain housekeeping for the I/E shop area and identify waste-reduction opportunities
  • Ensure equipment such as forklifts, safety showers, and ladders are approved and safe for use
