The HVAC Mechanic positions are crucial to the success of the University Housing mission at UWM, which aims to create safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living and learning environments for over 4,300 residents and 5,000 guests annually. These roles are part of the Facilities Unit for University Housing, responsible for the upkeep of 1.2 million square feet of residential and retail space, encompassing maintenance of mechanical infrastructure, electronics, paint, and elevators, as well as custodial services, capital improvements, and long-term project planning. The positions primarily involve providing maintenance and repair work within Sandburg Halls, Kenilworth Apartments, Riverview, and Cambridge Commons. Under the general supervision of the Building & Grounds Supervisor, HVAC Mechanics troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and modify mechanical and HVAC equipment specifically within residence halls. Key responsibilities include reexamining HVAC standards and practices, diagnosing building mechanical problems, and identifying, correcting, reporting, and communicating operational and maintenance needs. The role also entails performing scheduled and unscheduled equipment repairs to ensure building systems meet programmatic and energy conservation objectives. The incumbent will utilize METASYS, Carrier i-vu, InnCom, and traditional mechanical controls to manage strict environmental tolerances such as temperature, humidity, and air quality. Maintaining positive relationships with co-workers, residents, tenants, and guests, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. The primary work schedule is 2nd shift, including one weekend day per week, with training hours potentially varying between 1st and 2nd shifts.
