About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic II provides general heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration maintenance, repair, and installation services for hospital facilities, under the direction of engineering management. Examples include, but are not limited to: Chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, air handlers, fans, variable frequency drives, air distribution systems including air balance and air exchanges for critical areas or isolation, refrigeration equipment, ice makers, medical gas systems, and building automation systems (BAS). The HVAC Mechanic performs duties in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, codes, building standards, and hospital policies. The HVAC Mechanic participates with the facility service team to operate, maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems, equipment, and apparatus to provide a comfortable and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • HVAC maintenance related certificate
  • 3 years of experience in HVAC field
  • EPA Refrigerant Recovery certification

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • 3 years of hospital maintenance, construction, or mechanical system experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the temporary shutdown of the facility’s HVAC equipment, systems, and electrical components necessary for renovation, repair, and new construction projects.
  • Design, construct, install and remove various facility HVAC equipment, systems, and HVAC components.
  • Diagnose malfunctions in the facility’s HVAC equipment, systems, or HVAC components, and take appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for the facility’s HVAC equipment, systems, and HVAC components.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of replacement electrical equipment and systems.
  • Maintain the hospital computerized maintenance management system through the appropriate completion of work orders, and the recording of equipment history.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on all facility HVAC and refrigeration equipment, systems, and components, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Provide quality control for new installations or replacements of the facility’s HVAC and refrigeration equipment, systems, and HVAC components performed by others.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as electrical outages, HVAC equipment failures, ruptured pipe, fires or other hospital codes, per hospital and department emergency response plans.
