About The Position

POWDR is an adventure lifestyle company that inspires every human being with cool experiences in awesome places. Within POWDR’s portfolio are seven mountain resorts including Copper Mountain and Eldora Mountain Resort in Colorado; Boreal Mountain Resort and Soda Springs in the Lake Tahoe region of California; Mt. Bachelor in Oregon, Snowbird in Utah and SilverStar Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada. Included in the POWDR portfolio, is Stovepipe Wells located in Death Valley National Park, operated under a long-term concessions contract with the National Park Service. Zion Lodge is in National Register of Historic Places designed in 1924 by Gilbert Stanley Underwood in the National Park Service rustic style. The Zion Lodge is a year-round operation with 76 hotels rooms, 6 suites and 40 cabins as well as a restaurant, outside grab and go café, bar, gift shop and auditorium space. In the year 2025 a coffee and wine bar will be opening. Zion Lodge is a welcoming, safe, and environmentally responsible resort providing accommodations and services inside Zion National Park. Over the next few years, the resort will undergo upgrades to rejuvenate accommodations and dining for public enjoyment. Renewable energy projects and energy efficiency upgrades will also be completed as well as other Sustainability innovations. POWDR operates Zion Lodge under a long-term concession contract with the National Park Service. Job Summary: The Human Resource Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department at Destination Zion Lodge, which employs between 77-150 staff members depending on the season. This role encompasses recruitment, onboarding, training and development, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance with labor laws, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The HR Manager actively cultivates a safe, friendly, and fun work environment where outdoor adventure and environmental stewardship are embraced. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Requirements

  • Able to work and thrive in Zion National Park.
  • Ability to lead human services requirements and compliance with our concessions contract.
  • Organizational system skills for records and document control.
  • Technical skills utilizing cloud-based databases, programs, such as HRIS, LMS, etc.
  • Establish successful working relationships with co-workers, Park Service and the public.
  • Use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making.
  • Interact with the public and stakeholders in a professional manner and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. for various office supplies, equipment, arranging furniture for meetings, etc.
  • Minimum two years working in HR management position, and hospitality preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the leadership team to execute the organization's human resource and talent strategy, particularly in relation to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, especially for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborate with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Lead and engage the management team with processes for onboarding, training, development, OSHA, EEOC compliance, and performance reviews in line with regulatory and POWDR Parks ESQ standards.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations; provide support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and staff on complex and sensitive issues.
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to attract and retain top talent.
  • Create learning and development programs that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Ensure HRIS, LMS, and Risk Management Systems are kept up to date with accurate information.
  • Meet regularly with the General Manager, leadership team, and Corporate HR to discuss department ESQ and contract requirements, business statistics, process efficiencies, improvements, and event planning.
  • Host and lead meetings and training sessions to support the company's human resources, talent, and culture programs, encouraging participation and disseminating necessary information.
  • Oversee employee housing standards, programs, and communications to ensure a healthy, comfortable, and enjoyable living experience for employees, including wellness programs.
  • Act as a key leader in audit preparations, special projects, and documentation requirements for the ESQ (environment, safety, quality) management system, ensuring compliance with ISO management system standards.
  • Support operations and management to ensure compliance with POWDR Parks requirements for contract compliance and ESQ/ISO Management system documentation control and records.
  • Model a positive and energetic culture that recognizes and rewards employee efforts to maximize engagement and guest service.
  • Communicate organizational policies and procedures effectively.
  • Foster best-in-class guest and employee safety standards in accordance with company policies and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Ensure all departments conduct Job Safety and Hazard Analysis regularly, document findings, and engage teams in safety discussions.
  • Ensure team members participate in all required new hire training, recurrent training, emergency drills, and certifications as per the ESQ Training Requirements Matrix.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Destination Zion Lodge, modeling and sharing the Zion “culture” with our guests and employees.
