About The Position

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Human Resources Manager (Contract) in United States. This is a hands-on, operational HR role focused on supporting all aspects of human resources management in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You will oversee day-to-day HR operations, ensure compliance with federal and California-specific employment laws, manage HR systems, and support workforce planning and organizational development. The position requires strong expertise in HRIS systems, talent processes, and employment regulations, along with the ability to partner effectively with leadership and staff across multiple functions. You will play a key role in maintaining a compliant, efficient, and employee-focused HR operation while contributing to a collaborative and innovative culture. The contract nature of this role allows for autonomy, strategic input, and the opportunity to impact HR processes at an organizational level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on HR experience, preferably in nonprofit or startup environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Alternate Work Schedules (AWS), performance management, and 9-Box talent review processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in ADP (Workforce Now preferred) and HRIS reporting tools.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily HR operations and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with an emphasis on California regulations.
  • Administer California Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) programs, tracking elections, documentation, and compliance.
  • Handle employee relations, conduct investigations, and prepare documentation for corrective actions or terminations.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks; support audits and reporting requirements.
  • Support workforce planning through headcount tracking, utilization reports, position control, and organizational charts.
  • Serve as primary HRIS administrator, maintaining accurate employee data, generating reports, and identifying process improvements.
  • Utilize project management tools to track HR initiatives, deadlines, and compliance activities.
