About The Position

Viterbo University is seeking a collaborative and service-oriented part-time Human Resources Generalist (25 hours per week) who is passionate about supporting employees and helping foster a positive workplace. In this role, you will be a partner with faculty and staff across campus, providing support in key human resources areas including recruitment, benefits, training, and compliance. As a trusted resource for employees, you will help create positive workplace experiences while supporting the university's mission to prepare students for faithful service and ethical leadership.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in human resources or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of Human Resources experience.
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field.
  • HR Certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR.
  • Experience in Higher Education Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support employee training initiatives, including annual compliance training.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employees' questions related to HR policies and benefits.
  • Assist in employee relations matters, including documentation, investigations, and resolution of routine issues, while escalating complex matters as needed.
  • Monitor a shared HR e-mail inbox and respond to inquiries.
  • Process employment verifications.
  • Support employee wellness initiatives and benefits education efforts.
  • Process workers' compensation claims; assist the carrier in claim investigations and maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs.
  • Assist in the development, interpretation, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Process employee FMLA requests.
  • Assist with unemployment claims processing and/or hearings.
  • Support employee benefits programs including, health, dental, vision, long-term disability, flexible spending, retirement, tuition remission/exchange and life insurance.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Support performance management processes.
  • Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records with confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned, consistent with a part-time role.
  • May require schedule flexibility during peak periods, such as open enrollment.
