About The Position

A well established, mission driven nonprofit organization is seeking an HR Generalist to support employees across essential HR programs, with a primary focus on benefits administration or leave management. This role is ideal for an HR professional who values service, collaboration, and supporting employees who do meaningful work in their communities. As a key member of a collaborative HR team, you will work closely with HR leadership, payroll, and colleagues to ensure employees receive accurate guidance, timely support, and a positive experience throughout their employment lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as an HR Generalist or in a similar HR role, with hands on exposure to benefits administration and/or leave management
  • Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience working with HRIS and collaborating closely with payroll
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional, approachable communication style and a service oriented mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, education, or other mission driven environments strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support HR programs including employee benefits, leaves of absence (CFRA/FMLA/PDL/PFL/Disability), HRIS, and compliance
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits, leave options, and HR related questions
  • Manage benefits enrollments, life events, terminations, COBRA, and open enrollment activities or coordinate and track leave cases and required documentation
  • Partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions, benefit contributions, and leave coordination
  • Maintain employee records and HR documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Support employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and workplace inquiries
  • Assist with compliance reporting, audits, and required state and federal documentation
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive workplace culture aligned with the organization’s mission
