About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist (Leaves & Benefits) is the primary point of contact for general staff inquiries. Coordinates and administers integrative workplace health programs such as: Workers Compensation; leaves of absence; ergonomics; and medical accommodations. Administers Credit Union benefit programs, coordinates annual renewal, open enrollment and ensures accurate reconciliation of all benefit plans. Maintains quality service standards set by the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field, a certificate in Human Resources Management, or two years’ additional related work experience.
  • Functional competency with basic HR body of knowledge, with two years’ experience working in an HR/Benefits Department to include hands-on experience with leaves of absence, accommodations, employee relations or other relevant experience in other areas of HR. Experience in HR must be a level two role or higher.
  • College level math and analytical skills.
  • Working experience and ability to solve complex problems and deliver solutions where past precedent may not exist. Requires a significant degree of creativity and the ability to analyze scenarios, weighing the desirability and/or probability of possible outcomes in relation to each other.
  • Ability to effectively navigate nuance is required.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Professional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated internal service skills, including patience, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Intermediate level PC and MS Office skills, to include Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting employee investigations is desirable.
  • Project management experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Act as point of contact for general employee inquiries and requests related to benefits, leaves of absence, accommodations, workers’ compensation and ergonomics.
  • Process benefits enrollments, changes, and cancellations within the HRIS and with applicable carriers. Ensure qualifying life events are handled within established guidelines. Assist with annual open enrollment as well as monthly ACA reviews. Facilitate benefits orientation presentations and enrollment.
  • Conduct a monthly review of all benefit bills and enrollment reports, perform accurate reconciliation of all monthly changes and send to Leaves & Benefits Supervisor for review.
  • Provide Accounting with all necessary monthly benefits balancing items. Address Accounting reconciliation items in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Generate periodic census reports and coordinate annual total compensation statements.
  • Respond to inquiries pertaining to benefits eligibility and coverage; provides clear explanation and interpretation of plans. Act as liaison between employee and third-party providers to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Coordinates annual open enrollment and ensures that any benefit program changes are properly communicated and that all collateral is up to date.
  • Coordinate various wellness initiatives including the annual Health Fair, employee wellness challenge, onsite massages and the preparation of employee educational topics.
  • Works closely with the Leave of Absence Coordinator to ensure offers of leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, and Workers Compensation are handled within guidelines and documented appropriately. Reviews all requests received for eligibility and provides recommendations to management on how to proceed in each case. Works closely with management and other departments as needed to ensure all approved accommodations are implemented immediately and that any workplace equipment items are delivered timely. Ensures that all requests are handled consistently per credit union policies. Conducts regular and timely follow ups.
  • Assist in answering phones, screening or appropriately directing calls and messages.
  • Back up to Leave of Absence Coordinator and the Leaves & Benefits Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
