Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch is currently seeking a Human Resources Advisor. This position is an essential part of the Human Resources and People and Culture teams, partnering with Ranch Leadership, the Finance and IT Teams, and employees across the organization to support HR operations, employee relations, compliance, and organizational development. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on HR support, serving as a trusted advisor to managers while ensuring HR practices align with organizational goals and values. What you will do: The HR Advisor leads and facilitates the human resource processes for Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch Minot Campus. This position is responsible for aligning organizational objectives with employees and management in all departments and formulating partnerships across the organization to deliver value-added services that reflect the organization’s strategic objectives. The HR Advisor takes initiative by actively seeking out opportunities to improve HR processes, policies, and practices within the organization and identifies needs by collaborating with key stakeholders, such as department managers and executives, to identify areas where HR interventions are needed. Areas of expertise include talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, employee engagement, systems maximizations, and other HR functions. Role modeling of strong ethical and behavioral standards is essential, as well as having a high level of integrity.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or SHRM-CP (Society of Human Resources Certified Professional) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to support, coach, and develop their teams.
  • Advise managers on goal setting, performance evaluations, development plans, and corrective action.
  • Lead and support performance management and employee relations processes, including investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices are consistently applied and aligned with labor laws and organizational objectives.
  • Generate HR reports and analyze trends to provide insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Participate in HR initiatives such as policy development, HR system improvements, workforce planning, and organizational change efforts.
  • Support recruitment strategy by collaborating with hiring managers on staffing needs, job descriptions, and selection criteria.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors by providing guidance on HR policies, employee relations, and workplace concerns.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues with fairness, confidentiality, and objectivity.
  • Mediate disputes and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Lead recruitment efforts and provide a welcoming, positive candidate experience.
  • Support benefits administration and communication in alignment with the organization’s Culture of Caring.
  • Use employee surveys, exit interviews, and feedback to identify concerns and recommend improvements related to culture, engagement, and retention.
  • Promote employee engagement through recognition efforts, surveys, and participation in culture-focused committees and events.
  • Identify training and development needs and coordinate or facilitate HR-related training programs.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster a positive introduction to the organization’s Culture of Purpose, Caring, and Learning.
  • Coach and train managers on effective employee relations, leadership practices, and performance management.
  • Stay current on labor laws, regulations, and HR best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Support HR analytics, reporting, and system optimization to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist with HR projects, audits, and compliance reporting, including I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, payroll audits, and licensure reviews.
