About The Position

HR Specialist (Employee Relations Focus) Mountain Sage is seeking a thoughtful, experienced HR professional to support our staff and leadership team with a strong focus on employee relations and workplace culture. This role is ideal for someone who is grounded, fair, and skilled at navigating complex interpersonal dynamics while maintaining clarity, consistency, and compliance. As a Waldorf-inspired public charter school, we value relationship-centered practices, restorative approaches to conflict, and a deep commitment to sustainability—both environmentally and within our workplace culture. This role plays an important part in helping those values show up in a consistent and practical way. This is a mid-level HR role with an emphasis on people and process.

Requirements

  • 3–7+ years of HR experience, with a strong focus on employee relations
  • Demonstrated experience with: Conflict resolution and mediation (experience with restorative approaches is a plus)
  • Workplace investigations
  • Performance management and coaching
  • Disciplinary processes and terminations
  • Policy interpretation and development
  • Workplace culture and staff engagement efforts (including surveys)
  • Onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment grounded in facts and context
  • Confidence in holding individuals accountable to clear expectations and performance standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
  • Experience in education, nonprofits, or mission-driven organizations is a plus
  • Familiarity with or interest in Waldorf education, restorative practices, or sustainability is helpful, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Support employee relations matters with a calm, impartial, and solutions-oriented approach
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation, incorporating restorative practices where appropriate while maintaining clear expectations and outcomes
  • Lead and support workplace investigations, documentation, and follow-through
  • Provide guidance and support around performance management and evaluations
  • Partner with leadership on disciplinary processes and terminations, ensuring consistency and compliance
  • Help develop, clarify, and maintain policies and procedures
  • Support and help advance diversity-informed practices in a way that is practical, respectful, and grounded in daily operations.
  • Assist with workplace culture initiatives, including staff surveys and feedback loops
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a consistent and thoughtful employee experience
  • Help reinforce clear expectations and accountability, supporting staff in meeting established performance standards
  • Serve as an embedded HR presence for staff—someone approachable, steady, and able to maintain confidentiality
