About The Position

Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Human Resources Manager ensures that HR programs and practices are documented, completed with accuracy on a timely basis, comply with state and federal labor laws, ACLU SoCal policies and procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement. The Human Resources Manager assists with the execution of a wide range of sensitive and confidential matters while ensuring a high level of customer service in support of ACLU SoCal’s mission and strategic initiatives. The Human Resources Manager performs HR functions including: Talent Acquisition Onboarding HR Administrative Support Communicate payroll changes to the Finance department Benefits Administration Legal Compliance Employee Relations Compensation Administration Performance Appraisal System & Process Workers’ Compensation Track required safety trainings Reporting Committees Personnel Files Offboarding

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development, or related field. Four years’ experience in leading HR systems will be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. HR designation such as SHRM preferred
  • At least seven years of Human Resources experience leading Human Resources systems and recruitment
  • Exceptional time management and organization
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Familiarity human resource policies and procedures to meet organizational needs and goals
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Passionate about civil liberties and civil rights
  • A professional approach and a commitment to a workplace that values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances

Nice To Haves

  • Prior non-profit and/or union experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Asana or other project/task management system is preferred
  • Thorough understanding of all areas of information systems with a technical understanding of at least one commercial HRIS product
  • HR designation such as SHRM preferred
