About The Position

Under the supervision of the HR Manager and Director of Human Resources, this position functions as a Human Resource Generalist for the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing a broad range of HR support services to hospital staff and leadership across all departments. This role serves as a key resource in the areas of recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy interpretation, benefits coordination, compliance, and training. Working in alignment with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and organizational values, the HR Generalist ensures consistent and effective application of HR practices that support a safe, respectful, and productive work environment. The position requires a strong working knowledge of healthcare operations and the ability to support both clinical and non-clinical departments with professionalism and confidentiality. This role also involves regular interaction with union-represented employees and participation in the administration of collective bargaining agreements, including advising managers on contract interpretation and assisting with grievance or disciplinary processes.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or equivalent with an emphasis on office skills.
  • Minimum 24 months’ experience working in Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day human resources operations in a healthcare environment, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Assist in the recruitment of both clinical and non-clinical staff, including job postings, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer documentation.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding, including compliance with healthcare-specific requirements such as immunization records, background checks, drug screens, and credential/license verification.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with hospital policy, DNV standards, and applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and labor law compliance, including leave of absence policies (FMLA, OFLA, ADA, etc.).
  • Assist with employee relations matters by helping investigate complaints, documenting findings, and supporting fair and consistent resolution processes.
  • Monitor and track licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements for applicable staff to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support the administration of employee benefits, including open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and employee questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate and track annual performance evaluations and competency assessments in partnership with department leaders.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of training programs, including mandatory compliance training (e.g., HIPAA, infection control, workplace safety).
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, hospital policies, and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Collaborate with payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee changes (new hires, transfers, terminations, etc.).
  • Prepare reports and analyze HR data to support department goals, workforce planning, and organizational decision-making.
  • Promote and model a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture consistent with the hospital’s mission and values.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
