About The Position

Operation New Hope is a nonprofit operating in Jacksonville, Orlando, St. Johns County, the Space Coast, Tampa, and St. Petersburg. Our pre-release and post-release programs provide job training and placement, and comprehensive support services to people returning from incarceration and others who have been affected by the justice system with the goal of facilitating successful transitions back into the community. We motivate our clients to become productive, responsible citizens, and our programs help prevent recidivism, reduce the repeated costs of incarceration, and improve public safety. Our dedicated team supports the career opportunities, mental health, and overall stability of our clients to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Position Overview: The Human Resource Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy. The HR Director will ensure that the organization’s human resources practices and policies are effective, efficient, and aligned to overall business objectives. This position will directly supervise team of 2 – 4 FTEs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Current accredited HR Professional certification (SHRM, PHR, etc.) required.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in HR Administration management.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create a ‘high performing’ team culture.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to consider all points of view and work towards decisions that reflect the greater good of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS, talent management, and payroll systems.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and implements HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the organization’s mission and strategic vision.
  • Develops HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operations objectives.
  • Administers or oversees administration of the human resource function including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Oversees the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring with the goal to attract the best candidates and promote the organization’s values. Collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Maintains, updates, and creates job descriptions based on management feedback, job inventories/surveys, and departmental needs. Works directly with management team to determine need for updates annually.
  • Contributes information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction, establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives with an understanding of the various funding sources and how to align staff according to those grants/sources and implementing human resources policies.
  • Provides support and guidance to leadership, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Designs and directs training programs focused on organizational and staff development.
  • Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices. Reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance. Maintains staff records in a secure location.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to executive management.
