About The Position

We are a growing fabrication company based in Dickinson, ND seeking an experienced Manager of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead and build our safety division. This is a high-impact leadership role for a hands-on safety professional who thrives in a fast-paced, field-heavy environment. You will lead the full scope of HSE operations - OSHA compliance, incident and claims management, client-facing safety representation, and subcontractor oversight. Importantly, we operate with a strong belief that the HSE team leads the safety program but does not carry it alone - our Operations Management team is an active, accountable safety partner. The right candidate will know how to build that partnership and make it work. You will manage one current team member with clear opportunity to grow the division as the company scales.

  • 5+ years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 & 1926) and applicable ND state-level requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing workers' compensation and general liability claims from incident to resolution
  • Experience working directly with clients on safety compliance, pre-qualification, and site-specific safety plans
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and develop safety teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication - able to represent the company in client and regulatory settings
  • Must pass a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol screening, participate in the random testing pool
  • Must pass a motor vehicle record check and criminal background check
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle
  • The requirements listed in this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required and must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST designation a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead the HSE division and directly manage the existing HSE Coordinator
  • Ensure full OSHA and regulatory compliance across all company operations and job sites
  • Maintain regular job site presence - conduct unannounced visits, project kickoffs, and respond in person to serious incidents
  • Lead incident reporting and investigation processes - in active partnership with Operations Management, who are expected to fully participate and often take point on investigations
  • Manage workers' comp and general liability claims from incident through case closure
  • Build and sustain a strong safety partnership with Operations leadership - coaching supervisors and Project Managers to be active safety contributors, not passive bystanders
  • Serve as the company's primary HSE contact for clients, managing pre-qualification, safety submittals, and on-site compliance
  • Establish and enforce safety standards for subcontractors, including orientation, monitoring, and non-compliance escalation
  • Oversee all safety training programs, ensuring field and shop personnel and new hires are trained with records maintained in the company's record management system
