About The Position

The HRIS Solutions Architect serves as the functional expert for Workday within the HR organization, bridging HR strategy, operational needs, and system execution. This role is responsible for translating business concepts, process improvements, and organizational requirements into scalable Workday solutions that support the employee lifecycle and broader HR strategy. In partnership with the HRIS Architect, this individual will lead requirements gathering, assess business needs, recommend functional solutions, and ensure Workday configurations align with HR processes, data integrity standards, security requirements, and long-term organizational goals. The ideal candidate brings both deep Workday expertise and strong HR functional knowledge, with the ability to understand how HR should operate and apply that thinking effectively within the system. This role is equal parts strategic and hands-on. It requires someone who can think beyond transactions, anticipate downstream impacts, improve the user experience, support reporting and analytics, and act as the go-to Workday resource for the HR team. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Workday business processes, configuration concepts, security, reporting, and overall system functionality.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering requirements, translating business needs into system solutions, and partnering with technical teams to deliver enhancements.
  • Experience supporting HR systems within an internal HR function, with strong understanding of core HR operations and processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Workday Certified in HCM or related modules preferred, with five or more (5+) years of demonstrated experience leveraging Workday in a functional, business-facing capacity (not solely technical configuration).

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary functional Workday expert for HR, with deep knowledge of how to apply HR processes and concepts effectively within the system.
  • Partners closely with the HRIS Architect to translate business requirements into effective system configurations, enhancements, workflows, and design solutions.
  • Leads discovery and requirements-gathering sessions with HR stakeholders to understand business needs, process gaps, pain points, and future-state opportunities.
  • Analyzes and documents business requirements, process flows, use cases, and functional specifications to support Workday enhancements and optimization.
  • Evaluates requested changes for system impact, downstream implications, scalability, and alignment to HR and organizational strategy.
  • Makes recommendations on best-practice solutions and guides stakeholders toward efficient, sustainable use of Workday functionality.
  • Acts as a liaison between HR stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and implementation partners to ensure solutions are understood and executed effectively.
  • Supports configuration design discussions and provides functional expertise during testing, validation, and deployment of system updates and enhancements.
  • Performs or coordinates testing activities, including unit testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, and defect resolution.
  • Maintains system integrity through audits, validation, and review of HR data, security roles, business processes, and related controls.
  • Partners with HR, IT, Finance, Payroll, and other stakeholders to improve workflows, automate manual processes, and increase system effectiveness.
  • Develops reports, dashboards, and analytics to support HR operations, workforce planning, compliance, and decision-making.
  • Creates and maintains documentation, including requirements documents, job aids, user guides, process flows, and training materials.
  • Provides guidance and support to HR users on Workday functionality, best practices, and process changes.
  • Stays current on Workday capabilities, releases, and innovations, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance system value and user experience.
  • Contributes to broader HRIS and HR transformation initiatives, helping ensure technology supports both current business needs and future growth.
