About The Position

SMT, Inc., a leader in sheet metal fabrication, is looking for a people-focused HR Specialist who genuinely enjoys helping employees, solving problems, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. This role is the go-to support for employees with questions, concerns, and day-to-day HR needs, while also playing a key role in recruiting, onboarding, and employee engagement activities. If you’re organized, approachable, and thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where no two days look the same, this role may be a great fit. This is an in-office position. Typical hours are 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM but could go past 3:00 on some days to assist 2nd shift.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in an HR, People Operations, or administrative support role (manufacturing environment a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine desire to help others
  • Excellent organization and follow-through skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience using Paylocity is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, payroll, time off, and general HR matters
  • Provide guidance and support on employee issues, escalating as appropriate
  • Help foster a positive, respectful, and engaged workplace culture
  • Coordinate recruiting support including job postings, resume screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication
  • Assist with new-hire onboarding, orientation, and paperwork to ensure a smooth and welcoming start
  • Partner with hiring managers to ensure staffing needs are met efficiently
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
  • Support HR systems and data entry within the HRIS
  • Assist with compliance-related tasks and audits as needed
  • Help plan and coordinate employee events, celebrations, trainings, and engagement initiatives
  • Support company communications related to HR programs and activities
