About The Position

The HR Manager job entails providing practical, consistent and proactive support, direction and advice to the plant management team and others in the company on HR procedure, policy, recruiting, best practice, employment rewards, benefits and legislation to facilitate in achieving the objectives and targets of the organization. The HR Manager performs human resources management work related to hiring, recruitment, employee relations, union interaction, training, communication, compensation, promotion, termination, and employee development. The HR Manager will also develop, update and maintain personnel policies as required. SAFETY Actively participates in the safety program for the facility. Observes, reports and corrects behaviors that are unsafe. Works with the facility leadership to ensure a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including recruitment, compensation, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and respective federal and state employment laws.
  • Strong presentation skills, business writing skills, and training skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & Outlook)
  • Committed to varied work schedule, including minor overnight travel.
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g. ADP, Ceridian, PeopleSoft).
  • 7+ years HR experience; 2+ years of HR Management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (or related field)

Nice To Haves

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or PHR Certification a plus.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing/operations in a union environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all facility recruitment activities including but not limited to: sourcing applicants, pre-hire screenings, interviewing, orientation and onboarding tasks. May assist with corporate recruiting as needed.
  • Administers labor contract with bargaining unit employees. Provides for: grievance processing and resolution, contract wage administration regarding job bidding and layoff/recall procedures, vacation scheduling, benefits administration (retiree benefits if applicable) as specified in contract.
  • Assists labor negotiators at contract renewal with information and other support as needed
  • Administers Worker’s Compensation program according to established procedures.
  • Manages return to work and light duty programs by working closely with the EHS Site Leader, Worker’s Compensation insurance company representatives and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, benefits, safety issues, etc. are current and consistent throughout the facility and changes are communicated
  • Participates in facility leadership meetings as well as provides guidance to team on facility issues.
  • Administers facility employee leave of absences (STD, LTD, FMLA, etc.)
  • Manages absences, discipline and other employee data.
  • Recommends policies, procedures and courses of action regarding employment issues.
  • Analyzes manpower usage, turnover and other personnel statistics
  • Maintains training and development records for employees
  • Develops training plans for employees with Direct Reports and provides coaching on how to manage employees. Recommends courses of action for improvement of employees that have direct reports to reduce risk in the area of employee management.
  • Prepares reports for management as required
  • Provides for efficient and effective administration of hourly employee benefit plans, including insurances, time-off, retirement plan, education assistance, etc.
  • Assists corporate HR with administration of salaried benefits as needed or according to established procedures
  • Develops and conducts new employee orientation sessions to enhance the smooth and successful transition of new hires into the facility
  • Investigates and takes appropriate action to positively resolve workplace conflicts and problems. Coaches supervisors and managers on dealing effectively with disciplinary and/or performance-related issues with their employees. Assists with termination process
  • Maintains legally required and other records and documentation
  • Represents the Company in unemployment compensation insurance matters
  • Investigates internal complaints regarding discrimination, harassment, safety concerns, etc. Responds to EEOC claims
  • Advises the General Manager on human resources planning. Assists with the development and implementation of goals and plans of action consistent with Company objectives
  • Support General Manager on scheduling and coordination of Facility Communication meetings
  • Responsible for daily office administrative tasks (answer phones, process mail, order supplies, coordinate meals, maintain employee uniform and PPE program, order business cards, etc.)
  • Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Support Leads and Management with training for staff.
