About The Position

R+L Carriers is seeking an experienced HR Benefits Supervisor to lead and support our Benefits and Leave Team at our Wilmington, OH Headquarters. This role oversees daily operations within the Benefits/Leave Department and ensures the accuracy, compliance, and high‑quality service delivery of employee benefits administration. Position Summary The HR Benefits Supervisor is responsible for supervising the administration of company-sponsored benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, 401(k), disability, life insurance, and all Leave of Absence programs. This role provides direction, training, and support to Benefits Coordinators and ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations governing benefits and leaves. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, critical thinking, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supervising or leading HR or benefits staff preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Health Insurance, Leave of Absence laws (FMLA, ADA, state leaves), and benefits administration processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage complex or sensitive conversations professionally.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage deadlines, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and mature decision-making abilities when navigating complex benefit or leave issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn in-house database and HRIS systems.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, medical providers, vendors, and cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support daily work of Benefits Coordinators, ensuring timely and accurate processing of benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, and LOA-related tasks.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex employee benefit inquiries, claim issues, and leave cases.
  • Oversee the administration of FMLA, disability, workers’ compensation interface, and other leave programs to ensure legal compliance and internal policy alignment.
  • Coordinate with third‑party administrators, insurance carriers, and internal partners to resolve complex benefit and claim-related matters.
  • Review, update, and maintain SOPs, workflows, and department processes for continuous improvement.
  • Train, develop, and mentor team members to ensure consistency and quality in service delivery.
  • Audit benefit files, reports, and payroll changes to ensure accurate deductions and compliance.
  • Assist in annual benefits open enrollment including testing, communication review, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership on benefit trends, employee experience improvements, and policy changes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment in handling sensitive information.
