About The Position

The School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, is looking for a Human Resources Generalist at the rank of either Intermediate Professional or Senior Professional who is responsible for supporting the human resources needs and functions of the Department’s Research and Administrative personnel. The position will work alongside two other HR Generalists who are support other Departmental units. The HR Generalists work as part of the Department of Anesthesiology’s People Operations Team and are expected to provide cross-team coverage across Human Resources, Payroll & Compensation, and Faculty Affairs on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution, and one (1) year of professional experience in Human Resources.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences, or a directly related field from an accredited institution, and two (2) years of professional experience in Human Resources.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of University of Colorado policies, Regents Rules, and School policies
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  • Attention to detail when dealing with complex processes
  • Ability to take direction and also use independent judgment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the interpretation and application of policies, procedures and rules.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional experience executing core HR processes, including but not limited to: benefits administration, talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, or records management.
  • Two (2) years of experience utilizing PeopleSoft HCM or similar HR Management software experience
  • Experience processing FMLA from start to finish for employees
  • Experience in a higher education or healthcare setting

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Research and Administrative leadership, as appropriate, under the direction of the HR Manager, to ensure all HR needs are being met regarding recruitment, hiring, onboarding, personnel management (FTE changes, FMLA, etc.), resignations and terminations, etc. Additionally, serve as cross-coverage for other HR Generalist units on an as-needed basis to support HR processes.
  • Collaborate with HR Shared Services (HRSS) to ensure timely processing of Department HR transactions/requests, including but not limited to position creation, talent acquisition, new hire paperwork, PeopleSoft HCM entries, promotions, resignations/terminations, and leave payouts.
  • Maintain, in accordance with campus standards, personnel files of current and past, exempt professionals, non-exempt professionals, postdocs, and research faculty.
  • Stay current on State, University, HR, Research, and Faculty Affairs policies and proactively communicate relevant changes to department leadership and staff to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Serve as a resource for leadership, faculty, and staff on a wide range of HR matters and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including University HR and affiliate entities, to resolve HR issues
  • Assist the HR Manager in planning and executing employee training and development initiatives for both faculty and staff
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for leave management, including administering and tracking FMLA and FAMLI requests and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations in conjunction with the CU Leave Team
  • Communicate leave procedures and updates to faculty and staff, coordinating with the HR Manager and HR Shared Services to ensure accurate and timely leave processing and payouts
  • Support payroll functions for department faculty and staff, including data entry, processing personnel actions, and tracking FTE changes
  • Assist with the annual salary-setting process and management of faculty administrative stipends and funding allocations
