SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Human Resources Generalist is a part-time, experienced HR professional who provides expert support across core HR functions with a strong emphasis on California employment law. This role serves as a trusted advisor to HR leadership and managers, focusing on wage and hour compliance, leave administration, employee relations, and overall employment law guidance to ensure compliant and effective HR practices. This is a part-time remote, temporary position averaging approximately 10 hours per week, with the potential to transition into a permanent role after six months based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Extensive Human Resources experience with strong knowledge of California employment law
  • Demonstrated expertise in wage and hour compliance and leave administration
  • Ability to interpret and apply employment laws to practical workplace scenarios
  • Strong communication, organizational, and advisory skills.

Nice To Haves

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-state organizations

Responsibilities

  • California Employment Law & Compliance Provide expert guidance on California employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, employee classification, and workplace compliance
  • Monitor changes in California and federal employment laws and recommend updates to policies, practices, and procedures
  • Review and support updates to HR policies and employee handbooks
  • Wage & Hour Advise on exempt and non-exempt classification, overtime, meal and rest periods, timekeeping, and wage statement compliance
  • Partner with payroll and HR teams to support audits and address wage and hour issues
  • Assist in resolving wage and hour questions and corrective actions
  • Leave Administration Provide guidance on state and federal leave laws, including CFRA, FMLA, PDL, paid sick leave, and other statutory leaves
  • Support complex leave cases, ensuring consistent application and coordination of leave programs
  • Advise managers and HR partners on return-to-work and accommodation considerations
  • Employee Relations Provide guidance on employee relations matters with a focus on documentation, best practices, and legal compliance
  • Assist with investigations, performance management, and corrective action processes
  • Support managers with HR best practices and risk mitigation strategies
  • HR Operations & Projects Support daily HR operations and special HR projects related to compliance, training, audits, and process improvements
  • Provide general HR guidance across the employee lifecycle as needed
