About The Position

Hampton Lumber is seeking an HR Manager to join our team at our Warrenton, OR, sawmill. This is a highly visible, people-focused role that serves as a trusted partner to plant leadership and employees alike. The HR Manager will support the full employee lifecycle-including recruiting, onboarding, compliance, and retention-while maintaining a strong presence throughout the mill. The ideal candidate brings a balanced approach of empathy and accountability, and is confident offering respectful, solutions-oriented input to support both people and plant performance.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in an HR generalist or HR manager role, ideally in a manufacturing, industrial, or similarly fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, investigations, and performance management with fairness and discretion.
  • Comfortable facilitating onboarding, training, and employee meetings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment in sensitive situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
  • Willing and able to spend regular time throughout the plant site engaging with employees and supervisors.

  • Influence and relationship-building: Able to push back respectfully when needed while maintaining trust and strong working relationships across the site.
  • Change management and communication: Comfortable leading policy rollouts or process changes with clarity and empathy.
  • Visibility and engagement: Naturally present and approachable-someone who builds trust by being out in the plant and checking in regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment & Hiring: Lead local recruiting efforts and develop strategies to attract top talent. Work with supervisors to build and maintain candidate pipelines.
  • Onboarding & Orientation: Design and facilitate welcoming, organized onboarding experiences to ensure new hires feel prepared and connected.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a neutral, trusted resource-counselor, coach, and connector-helping employees navigate workplace issues and grow professionally.
  • Employee Discipline & Termination: Ensure processes are fair, compliant, and well-documented. Partner with supervisors to uphold expectations and support consistent leadership practices.
  • Training & Development: Coordinate employee training sessions; collaborate on skill development, safety training, and leadership growth programs.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of project best practices that impact safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Safety & Compliance: Collaborate with safety teams and supervisors to identify risks and promote a culture of safety. Ensure HR policies and practices meet all legal and regulatory standards.
  • Payroll & Benefits: Support payroll changes, open enrollment, FMLA coordination, and benefits-related needs in partnership with corporate HR.
  • Retention & Culture: Build team cohesion, help prevent burnout or apathy, and support recognition and engagement strategies.
  • Record Keeping & Administration: Maintain accurate HR records, support audits, and ensure documentation is complete and confidential.

Benefits

  • Substantial company-paid assistance for Medical and Dental insurance premiums; mental health coverage; cost effective co-pays and deductibles
  • 401(k) with 5% annual company contribution and generous company matching contributions vested over three years
