About The Position

Assists in the timely and efficient administration of housing services provided by Cowlitz Indian Tribal Housing Department (CITHD); provides assistance to tribal members applying to receive services; coordinates processing of applications; ensures compliance with CITH and HUD policies and procedures. Maintains professionalism in all interactions with internal and external customers. Honors and represents the mission, vision, values of CIT and Housing department. Requirements

  • Knowledge of CITH and HUD policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of records management.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to tribal customs and beliefs.
  • Ability to operate various word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and financial software programs.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

  • Associate’s Degree Administrative Support, or related experience in a tribal government, preferred.
  • Two years’ case management, housing, or administrative support experience, preferably with math calculation formulas.
  • A combination of relevant education, training, and related work experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license is required when driving vehicles for work-related purposes.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.
  • Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions.
  • All positions are required to adhere to CIT’s established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Pre-employment drug screen.
  • Reference checks, education and employment verification.
  • Federal, state, and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks including fingerprint verification.

  • Associate’s Degree Administrative Support, or related experience in a tribal government, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as policy communicator and spokesperson to applicants, tenants, and the community.
  • Communicates and disseminates information to residents and Housing staff as needed; incorporates changes into procedures as necessary.
  • Responds to incoming telephone calls and emails regarding CITH services and programs in a timely and efficient manner ensuring professional telephone and email etiquette.
  • Ensure and enforce CITHD Master Housing Policy- NAHASDA/HUD and all current housing program service policies.
  • Determines client eligibility for CITH programs; initiates and processes applications from the waiting list.
  • Conducts case management records (hard copies and electronic records) of CITHD NAHASDA/HUD policy functions described for admission, eligibility reviews, calculation, occupancy, and program violations.
  • Schedule and conduct initial, annual, special, interim recertification for current housing program services and assistance.
  • Assists clients with application process; communicates application progress and changes to clients.
  • Establishes, maintains, and updates files, databases, records, and/or other documents.
  • Attends training as necessary to obtain knowledge in IHA, NAHASDA & HUD policies and regulations, as it pertains to resident services, occupancy, development, modernization, and financial management.
  • Completes and submits accurate and timely required reports.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers of the operations.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and presents a positive, professional demeanor and image.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work period otherwise balance the workload and coverage demands.
