About The Position

The Housing Landlord Engagement Specialist supports homeless or at-risk Veteran households by providing housing counseling, housing search assistance, and facilitating direct engagement with local landlords and property managers across Southern New Jersey. This position plays a key role in expanding permanent housing opportunities for Veterans through strategic relationship-building, community outreach, and coordinated support with the Housing Navigator. The specialist is also responsible for developing landlord engagement strategies and hosting events aimed at landlord recruitment and retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in social work, human services, real estate, community development, or a related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in housing assistance programs, landlord relations, or case management.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, negotiation, and outreach skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of housing markets, landlord/tenant laws, and affordable housing programs preferred.
  • Experience working with veterans, low-income, or special needs populations strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Program Manager and represent the agency in housing-related matters as assigned.
  • Actively recruit and educate landlords on benefits of housing Veterans and supportive housing programs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of landlord contacts including unit types, rent amounts, amenities, and availability.
  • Coordinate housing tours, inspections, and move-in logistics for program participants.
  • Develop and distribute landlord engagement materials and presentations.
  • Organize and execute landlord recruitment and appreciation events within the service area.
  • Provide individualized housing search assistance and counseling to Veteran households.
  • Build and update directories of affordable housing resources and opportunities.
  • Serve as a mediator to resolve tenant-landlord conflicts and support long-term tenancy.
  • Collaborate closely with Housing Navigators and Case Managers to support client housing plans.
  • Participate in Continuum of Care (CoC) meetings and community outreach to identify housing opportunities.
  • Ensure timely completion of all required reports, documentation, and data entry.
