About The Position

The Custodian Tech is responsible for performing professional housekeeping duties in residence halls and reports to the General Custodian Tech Supervisor. This position performs routine custodial tasks according to established schedules and housekeeping standards. This is a fast-paced environment where job assignments and locations may vary within the residence halls to meet departmental needs. Custodian Techs are required to work long hours during the summer months, and schedules may change based on departmental needs.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED
6 months to 1 year of custodial experience in a commercial or institutional setting.

Demonstrated knowledge and use of housekeeping chemicals and equipment
Ability to work in a detailed-oriented team environment
Demonstrated skill in the operation of carpet cleaning and floor cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, scrubbers, and power washers
Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

Performs routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, extracting, blowing, removing trash, cleaning stairs, washing walls and baseboards, cleaning windows and window coverings, cleaning and polishing mirrors, removing spiderwebs, cleaning up spills, appliances and furniture.
Moves sofas, chairs, tables, desks, mattresses, appliances and beds to accomplish cleaning tasks.
Safely operates all job-related equipment.
Shampoos carpets and upholstery in suites, apartments, hallways, lobbies, community spaces, study rooms, kitchenettes/kitchens, and offices within residential halls.
Cleans bathroom showers, tubs, stalls, toilets, glass, mirrors, sinks, vent covers, and walls using provided chemicals, materials and equipment; restocks restrooms with all necessary materials and products.
Reports problems, incidents, damages or building repairs needed and as directed by supervisors.
Properly handles and disposes of recycling materials and follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
Provides quality customer service to residents and staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Communicate effectively, respectfully and professionally in the workplace.
Basic computer skills required to check emails, take required University trainings, submits work request and work orders.
Ability to drive according to the University of Tennessee Safety Policy if required.
Performs additional duties as assigned and required to meet Housing & Residential Life and University goals and objectives.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. bend, twist, pull, reach, climb stairs and ladders.
