About The Position

This is a supervisory position responsible for maintaining a high quality standard in Housekeeping and Laundry by training, supervising, and motivating the staff to ensure all work assignments are complete. Directs the housekeeping program to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions exist. Supervises laundry/linen distribution and processing. Coordinates the activities of Housekeeping/Laundry personnel. Assign tasks to workers, and inspects completed work for conformance to standards. Resolves employee problems or refers matters to the Director of Housekeeping/Laundry, or Director of Human Resources. Trains new workers, records hours worked, recommend discharge of incompetent employees, and perform other personal duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift heavy objects.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual cleaning tasks for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Two years supervisory experience and one year experience in either housekeeping or laundry (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Trains and instructs employees in the proper use of new equipment and cleaning products and procedures
  • Retrain employees every 6 months
  • Assists with new employee orientation, and orientation is completed per department policy and procedure
  • Utilizes appropriate disciplinary measures
  • Acts as a liaison between all shifts
  • All legitimate requests within the hospital are met immediately
  • Routinely contacts department heads/managers to discuss problems or concerns
  • Arranges for assigned areas to have adequate coverage at all times
  • Addresses abusive absenteeism and tardiness among department employees
  • Maintain, at all times, the proper control over the use of chemicals and supplies to ensure proper usage
  • Ensures that all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers at all times
  • Reports the need of any equipment needing repair of any unsafe conditions
  • Periodically inventories supplies, equipment, and linen
  • Conducts weekly inspections; walks through each employees work assignment and points out opportunities for improvement
  • Recommends the purchase of cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Maintains time records of staff
  • Maintains days On-Off schedule of staff
  • Spends more than 80% of time on the work floor following up on employees
