About The Position

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to work within Office of Science, Center for Health Informatics, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). The incumbent will join the data modernization team supporting Office of Public Health to develop innovative public health reporting tools. This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program, and the purpose is to help strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or have completed, a degree, certificate, or training program in public health, health sciences, biology, environmental health, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics, data science, social sciences, health policy, or a closely related field.
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with programming including an understanding of core computer and data science concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience Ruby on SAS, Java, C/C++, PHP, Python, or JavaScript or any data analytics languages and Database skills.
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated through collaboration of staff and organizations.
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and/or data science.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing customized form and workflows in NYSDOH public health data systems
  • Supporting integration of public health data systems via API
  • Assist with developing API & web services solutions running on a PaaS container platform
  • Supporting the performance of cloud applications and solutions; analyzing opportunities for improvement
