Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Grounds and Facilities, the Horticulturalist Landscaper is responsible for and involved in all facets and beautification of the Clubhouse, Sports Center, course grounds, and landscape beds. Responsibilities include the planning, installation, and ongoing care of ornamental plants and floral displays throughout the club’s grounds, with an emphasis on extensive container and flower pot plantings. This role supports the club’s commitment to exceptional aesthetics, seasonal beauty, and a welcoming environment for members and guests.

Requirements

  • Degree or certification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands on experience will be considered.
  • Willingness to learn and operate equipment such as skid steers, tractors, and utility vehicles; valid driver’s license required.
  • Demonstrated experience with container gardening and ornamental plant care.
  • Strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, soil media, fertilizers, and irrigation practices.
  • Ability to identify and treat common plant pests and diseases.
  • Self motivated, detail oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively in person and by phone, with adequate speech and hearing ability.
  • Use sense of smell to identify abnormal conditions such as smoke, leaks, or other odors indicating equipment malfunction.
  • Ability to work across outdoor, shop, and office environments as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items up to 50 lbs., as well as climbing, crawling, and stooping as necessary.
  • Work outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Work in aerial, underground, or confined environments with potential exposure to bacteria, hazardous chemicals, and fumes.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain woody plants, perennials, annuals, and other ornamental plant material.
  • Design, plant, and maintain a large number of decorative flower pots, planters, and container displays across clubhouses, entrances, patios, pools and common areas.
  • Identify, diagnose, and assist in addressing plant health issues, including pests, nutrient deficiencies, and diseases.
  • Select appropriate plant material for seasonal rotations, sun/shade conditions, and long-term health.
  • Perform regular watering, fertilizing, pruning, deadheading, and pest/disease management for containerized and in-ground plantings.
  • Coordinate seasonal change-outs of flowers and ornamental plants to maintain year-round visual appeal.
  • Monitor plant health and soil conditions; adjust care practices as needed.
  • Maintain horticultural tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Work collaboratively with grounds, golf, and facilities teams to support club events and special functions.
  • Interact professionally with club members and respond to horticultural-related requests or feedback.
  • Cleanliness of the grounds and landscape beds.
  • Participate in Grounds & Facilities Department winter maintenance practices and projects.
