About The Position

The National Clinician Consultation Center (NCCC) HIV/Viral Hepatitis Prevention Education Specialist will be responsible for providing clinical education to NCCC’s external users/learners via the program’s teleconsultation services and public-facing resources. As an NCCC Prevention Education Specialist, the incumbent will utilize their clinical training and relevant practice experience regarding HIV and viral hepatitis prevention and care to provide clinical education directly to NCCC users seeking information via NCCC’s HIV/viral hepatitis prevention teleconsultation services. This includes answering incoming calls from clinicians nationally regarding HIV/viral hepatitis transmission prevention including bloodborne pathogen exposure evaluation and management and post-exposure prophylaxis initiation. The incumbent will also perform administrative/operational duties that accompany their role as an educator with the NCCC, as well as the overall work of the NCCC, such as collecting and documenting relevant education/training activity information to ensure accurate and complete data for reporting and other purposes, preparing materials to distribute to callers, participating in quality improvement meetings and related activities (such as internal training sessions on emerging topics of interest), and assisting (as appropriate) with relevant regulatory activities to ensure program compliance. Education domains may also include best and emerging practices in HIV/viral hepatitis prevention, working with allied professionals to deliver team-based care in these areas, and impacts of systems/policy changes on health care delivery for highly impacted populations. The Prevention Education Specialist will interface with diverse internal and external stakeholders representing various professional and personal experiences: therefore, they will be expected to apply a warm and non-judgmental manner and consistently demonstrate interpersonal professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity. NCCC staff are asked to maintain a collaborative approach to their work and help cultivate standardized workflows and processes to ensure high-quality services are consistently provided and that program deliverables are met. Currently, NCCC offers services 7 days/week: applicants for this position are needed to help staff NCCC’s weekend PEPline operations only. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $110,400 - $235,400 (Annual Rate). Requirements

  • Graduate-level (Master's or Doctorate) degree in related area of health professions training (e.g., MD/DO, MSN/DNP, Masters in PA studies, PharmD
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience analyzing clinical studies and including new developments and approaches into clinical practice and/or guidance to other clinical providers
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in HIV/viral hepatitis prevention and care. Specific topics in which clinical expertise is expected include but are not limited to: HIV and viral hepatitis screening/testing; HIV post-exposure prophylaxis initiation and management, ARV drug interactions and toxicity; prevention of HBV/HCV transmission including HBV post-exposure prophylaxis and vaccination; STI screening and prevention
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills. Strong diplomacy skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with department leadership, subject matter experts and external agencies.
  • Proven ability to advise and influence all levels of leadership and staff
  • Highly developed skills and expertise in organizational and project management. Excellent personal organization skills
  • Demonstrated competence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership, problem identification and resolution, and clinical teaching/training
  • Demonstrated ability to document encounters accurately and in a timely manner
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or General Internal Medicine
  • Prior experience preventing and managing complex blood borne pathogen exposures (i.e. HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C)
  • Prior clinical experience with evaluation and management of complex bloodborne pathogen (i.e. HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C) exposures such as cases involving pregnancy/breastfeeding, exposed persons who have chronic health conditions, and exposed persons who have been on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis
  • Expert knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning practices.
  • Expert ability to facilitate educational technology opportunities using technology-based solutions
  • Prior experience training/educating diverse groups of clinical learners
  • Experience working cross-functionally with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • AAHIVM certification as HIV Specialist or HIV Pharmacist, or HIV Clinical Fellowship experience
