About The Position

The HIV Prevention Epidemiologist position serves as the lead Epidemiologist for the HIV/STD Prevention Program and is responsible for managing, analyzing, and reporting HIV, STD, and HCV testing data to support public health decision-making and program evaluation. The role involves developing and maintaining data systems, conducting statistical analyses using SAS and other tools, and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders. This position ensures data quality and security, supports grant reporting, and provides technical guidance to community partners and program staff. It also coordinates with the Surveillance Unit and other public health programs to align data efforts and improve service delivery. The position operates independently and supervises assigned staff to meet programmatic and reporting objectives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience writing, editing, and executing SAS programs to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets for epidemiologic reporting and program evaluation.
  • Proven ability to design and manage data systems for HIV/STD/HCV testing programs, including integration of multiple data sources and implementation of data quality controls.
  • Expert-level proficiency in generating statistical reports and visualizations to communicate trends and findings to internal leadership, public health partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Documented experience coordinating interagency data-sharing efforts and aligning program objectives across public health departments, surveillance units, and community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated success leading the development of grant-related data deliverables, including compiling and analyzing data for federal progress reports and funding proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical analyses and generate epidemiologic reports using SAS and other statistical software to identify trends in HIV, STD, and HCV testing data.
  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate data systems to support program goals, reporting requirements, and public health interventions.
  • Supervise assigned staff responsible for data management and ensure timely completion of ad hoc and routine reporting tasks.
  • Coordinate data integration and analysis efforts with the Surveillance Unit and other public health programs to support comprehensive evaluation.
  • Lead the preparation of annual and biannual reports detailing statewide HIV/STD/HCV screening activities and outcomes.
  • Write and revise SAS code to extract, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources for internal use and external reporting.
  • Support grant writing and budget development by providing data analysis and contributing to federal and state funding proposals.
  • Train internal and external stakeholders on data systems, reporting tools, and interpretation of epidemiologic findings.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for data-related inquiries from community partners, public health agencies, and legislative bodies.
  • Contribute to policy development by analyzing data trends and recommending changes to improve HIV/STD/HCV prevention strategies.
