About The Position

This Historical Interpreter II position will be responsible for conducting daily operations and interpretation at various locations in the Piedmont Region of the Historic Sites Division, most immediately at Duke Homestead State Historic Site in Durham. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Conducting tours and programs as part of visitor services • Giving general on-site and off-site presentations and assisting with special events and programs • Conducting appropriate artifact management and care techniques • Assisting with coordinating a volunteer program • Researching topics • Operating gift shop and managing gift shop inventory • Assisting with light maintenance and janitorial duties

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven ground with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be available to work the schedule of Tuesday - Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with occasional night or weekend work as required.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience in giving or developing museum tours; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
