About The Position

Actors at The American Prohibition Museum entertain guests by taking them on a journey back in time to re-live the intoxicating Prohibition era of the roaring twenties, and the ratification of the 18th Amendment! This position must have a good sense of fun and a desire to entertain. The Prohibition and Pirate Museum Actor's job is to bring this history to life in a respectful, accurate, and engaging way while keeping to the company's mission to be The Nation's Storyteller.

Requirements

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently or as a team within the scope of established rules and regulations.
  • Ability to learn stage direction and memorize historical details provided in scripted stories and relay scripted stories in an entertaining manner
  • Ability to successfully portray historical characters in front of an audience according to script and stage directions, as well as improvising, if the situation arises.
  • Ability to be heard in a clear, loud, audible voice without amplification by and audience up to 65 people.
  • Ability to give the scripted story in the time allowed.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and substance abuse testing
  • Have a passion for helping people and making their Savannah experience a memorable one
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a bar card or equivalent within two weeks of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong Interest in Prohibition history is desirable
  • Prior performance or interpretation experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Present historically accurate information in an entertaining manner in costume, both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, several times a work shift, in a clear, loud, audible voice without amplification for an audience of up to 65 people. Must remain on show schedule when performing.
  • Portray costumes historical characters to teach or interpret local history.
  • Study and rehears roles from scripts to interpret, learn and memorize lines and cues as directed.
  • Learn about characters in scripts and their relationships with each other to develop role interpretations.
  • Capability to fill the roles for the host, historical character and switch roles with ease when required during a work shift.
