About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a wide variety of interpretive and visitor service tasks at Historic Edenton State Historic Site. This position provides historical research, provides historical information for exhibits, publications, tours, and programming. This position performs daily duties such as tours and demonstrations. This position is a critical part of site operations, visitor services, safety, and education. This position supervises volunteers. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Visitor services – giving tours, greeting visitors, living history interpretation, operating the sales desk, and answering phone and email inquiries. • Maintaining office areas, public areas, historic buildings, and artifacts. • Researching, compiling, and interpreting historic information. • Scheduling group tours. • Planning and implementing special events. • Answering correspondence, completing inventories, filing and maintaining site records.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience in giving or developing museum tours; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be available to work the schedule of Tuesday - Saturday 8:30am - 5:00pm with occasional nights and weekends required as needed.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of state or national antebellum and Federalist-era history.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing special events and educational programming.
  • Experience in the care and maintenance of historic artifacts.
  • Experience in maintaining records and preparing routine reports.
  • Experience with social media and marketing for organizations.
