The Histo Tech Non-Certified position involves the preparation of specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist through the use of microtomy, special staining, histochemistry, and other appropriate techniques in accordance with Pathology policy and procedures. The role requires being versed in a range of procedures including processing, cutting, and embedding all types of tissue and body fluid samples, performing routine and special staining procedures, and having knowledge of immunohistochemical staining procedures if applicable. The individual will also be responsible for the use and maintenance of histology equipment and the maintenance of manuals, logs, and files appropriate to the department.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum 1 year experience as a Histotechnician (Non-Certified)

Nice To Haves

Certified Histotechnician (HT/ASCP)

Responsibilities

Preparation of specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist through the use of a microtomy, special staining, histochemistry, and other appropriate techniques in accordance with the Pathology policy and procedures
Must be versed in a range of procedures including processing, cutting, embedding of all types of tissue and body fluid samples
The performance of routine and special staining procedures
Knowledge of immunohistochemical staining procedures if applicable to job duties
Use and maintenance of histology equipment
Maintenance of manuals, logs and files appropriate to the department
Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director
