Histo/Grossing Tech Job Summary The Histology technicians’ purpose is to prepare microscopic slides of excellent quality from human tissue samples obtained in surgery. Perform all routine and many complex procedures involved in daily operations of the histopathology lab. Also perform clerical and maintenance duties, performs quality control checks. Assist the Pathologist and histotechnologist with daily procedures and tasks. Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to policies and procedures. Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling. Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification. Maintains a clean and well-organized work area. Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned. Demonstrate the ability to handle broad range of specimens with indirect supervision (i.e. gallbladders, oriented skin lesions, biopsies, etc.). Record measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicable. Interact directly with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies the histology technical supervisor or Assistant Director. Ensures all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Ensures compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
