About The Position

Scans paper documents into the EMR and assigns any documentation deficiencies to providers for completion of records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free on any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • HIM program certificate preferred
  • Previous HIM or physician office staff experience preferred
  • certificate in coding or previous coding experience.
  • Basic medical office management, medical terminology, basic knowledge of coding

Responsibilities

  • Scans paper documents into the EMR.
  • Collects medical records from each patient care unit daily, preps records for scanning, ensures patient identification on each page, ensures documents are scanned to the appropriate patient’s record and are legible. Ensures the scanner is working properly by watching carefully for double feeds, jams, etc.
  • Reviews records for physician deficiencies and flags them for completion.
  • Maintains scanners in working order.
  • Keeps scanner clean and lint free.
  • Reviews records for documentation deficiencies
  • Reviews the record for missing signatures or reports from providers.
  • Assigns deficiencies to incomplete records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Accepts and performs other assigned duties with a positive attitude, as requested and documented by the supervisor, to meet the standard.
  • Completes duties within deadlines defined by the supervisor.
  • Displays positive behaviors, which promote effective interpersonal relationships and enhance the hospital image.
  • Interacts in an effective, willing, professional manner with patients, guests and other health care team members.
  • Adheres to hospital and department policies and guidelines with no more than one instance of noncompliance annually to meet the standard.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services listed below.
  • Fire & Safety, Disaster Response and any other hospital wide or departmental specific, which might apply.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of any information.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of any information the employee has access to including but not limited to financial, patient records, employee records or any other information of a sensitive nature which if disclosed could cause harm to the hospital, patients or staff.
  • Maintains a satisfactory attendance record.
  • Meet attendance expectations as specified in the WRMC Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
