About The Position

The HIM Technician Sr provides advanced support in the management of patient health information under the general supervision of departmental leadership. This role is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and utilizing both electronic and paper medical records, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with established standards. All responsibilities are carried out in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

• Highschool Diploma and/or GED.
• External Candidate: Three (3) years of experience in an acute care hospital or medical office setting working with electronic health records in a Health Information Management or Medical Records environment or related field.
• Internal Candidate: Two (2) years of experience as an HIM Technician at Tampa General Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Index, scan, validate, and reconcile patient health records; ensure accuracy of MRN/CSN assignment and correct document type classification.
• Monitor scanned images and electronic documentation for errors, duplicates, or missing information, and escalate as appropriate.
• Assist with designated tasks related to decedent documentation and workflows under the direction of the Decedent Affairs Coordinator.
• Assist with onboarding, orient new employees to HIM procedures, serve as a role model, and support peer development.
• Answer and triage incoming phone calls to the Health Information Management (HIM) Department in a courteous, timely, and professional manner.
• Assist internal and external customers, including patients, providers, clinical staff, and partner organizations, by addressing general inquiries related to medical records and HIM services.
• Hybrid team members only: Retrieve paper medical records from Tampa General Hospital - Davis Islands on a weekly basis
